Sustainability Curriculum Intern
The opportunity:
One of the greatest benefits of being a member of Fashion Takes Action is having access to great live and online educational events and resources through our Studio – at a discounted rate. Although our Program Director is a trained teacher with many years in the sustainability field, she wears many hats at FTA. She needs someone to work on this project with her so that it gets the attention it needs. This is position is of key strategic importance.
What you bring:
- Understanding of learning styles and experience developing curriculum (nonsector specific)
- Experience teaching, facilitating or coaching (non-sector specific)
- A broad understanding of sustainability and experience communicating about it
- Any experience with online learning is a definite asset
- Any experience with coaching or learning-based business is a definite asset
- Ability to develop an idea, and the humility to be able to change direction on the fly
- Ability to work to a deadline independently or with a team
- Have no problem asking questions when you need clarification or direction (because we’re definitely not micro-managers)
- A sense of adventure and a passion for business on a mission
When and where:
We’re pretty flexible on the days of the week (Monday to Thursday), but we’d like a commitment from you of at least 80 hours (one day a week) from September to December. Since email, Skype and the Internet make telecommuting easy, some of these hours can be completed at home; however, nothing beats the effectiveness of face-to –face meeting and teamwork. That being said, we encourage you to spend at least 60% of your time at our Toronto office. How we’ll support you: You’ll feel welcomed right away. Yes, we’re typical social entrepreneurs: very motivated, multi-tasking problem solving individuals, but we’re also engaged, friendly and genuinely interested in the career development and lives of the people we work with. Your training and orientation to FTA will be on the fly, but we’ll be here to mentor you along the way. If you’ve got a question, we’ll make time for you. You’ll have a space at the communal worktable in our loft-style office (it’s a former tannery), and access to the freshest organic, fair trade coffee in town from our neighbours at the Merchants of Green Coffee! Perks: Real life industry experience; the occasional spontaneous opportunity to participate in cool fashion events; expanding your professional network through FTA members, partners and our eco business associates; our eternal gratitude and the satisfaction that comes from doing work that makes the world a healthier place to live! If this sounds like you . . .
We’d love to hear from you!
Please send your resume along with a curriculum sample (document or a link) and a covering letter that tells us why you’d be perfect for the position and your availability (months, days and/or hours) Sarah Kear, Program Director, sarahk@fashiontakesaction.com
